    Saturday 19 July 16u15 - 17u15 USA

Talking happy returns! Dave Gonzales and his buddies were our guests for the first time exactly 25 years ago, and now that they are in the midst of their reunion tour in the US, it was pretty inevitable that we would fly over the band from San Diego to Peer once more. Not that we had to really beg: The Paladins were here in 1999 and in 2011 as well, meaning that they know the house. And the house knows them, and knows what they can do and what to expect: their own personal stew of blues, roots-rock, rockabilly, country and rock ‘n’ roll that granted the band the epithet “one of America’s hardest working live bands”.
They are at it for almost thirty years now, but there is no wear and tear visible: if you ask us, time did stand still for some years and do not mind that there were no new album releases. That will surely come, but not before we enjoyed, again, a fine hour of Paladins “for old times’ sake”.

If there is one artist who has left his mark over the past ten years on the blues world, it is Ian Siegal, the man with the fabulously croaky voice and his slide guitar. If our calculations are correct, this is the fifth time he has featured on our poster and that is fully justified in our opinion. Every time he was here before, he played sets that vast numbers of visitors remembered for a long time to come. This time he is coming without his friends from the Mississippi Delta, and will be alone with his own band. Last year, Ian came out with three stunning CDs and we would not be disappointed if his set featured a good collection of tracks from “Live In Amsterdam”. Can you imagine seeing with your own eyes how Ian and gifted guitarist Dusty Ciggaar will blow new life into Tom Russel’s “Gallo del Cielo”? But even if that track doesn’t make it into the collection for the set, we already know that the first evening will end in style and that a great number of you will head back to your car or campsite humming along to “Buelah Land”. We can think of no better way to spend this short summer night….

In these hectic soccer times, kick-off must be given by people who aren’t really impressed by hectic events anymore. That is the reason why the starting salvo of our thirtieth edition is given by Rusty Roots, the pride of Peer that recently gave birth of a fabulous fourth CD, produced by Mario Goossens (Triggerfinger). “Your Host” made it to “Album of the Week” on Radio 1 and was also elsewhere showered with honours. Perfectly deserved, since the growth of the group towards raw, uncut roots-rock is quite impressive, with a scent of Stones in it, a pinch of Black Crowes, a sprinkling of Neil Young, but especially loads of Rusty Roots.
